Did you know what exactly Cybersecurity is?

Welcome to the first issue of "CyberSec For Newbies". As this is the first post, don't criticize me for raw format or any other mistakes. Just give your honest opinion, and I will be happy to adopt those changes. Let's try different things for the first month and then we will shift to a structured format.

We all have grown up watching movies, and almost everyone has watched at least one movie related to hacking, where we generally saw a person hack any device or system within a few minutes by running some scripts or tools/software. But is it that simple to hack anything?
No, it's not. What we see in movies doesn't happen in the real world. Hacking any device or system is not that simple and not that fast. Sometimes, it takes just years to plan out hacking a system, and then, you can't be sure you will be able to hack.
So, throw your old thoughts and mindset in the trash, prepare to learn the real cybersecurity stuff, and experience its wonders.

Before moving ahead, let me debunk some myths about the field.
1. Do you think Cybersecurity is something like rocket science, which is very difficult to learn?
Yes, it's not easy, but it's not also very difficult. It's just like other skills like graphic designing, video editing, content writing, etc. How fast or slow you can learn depends on the content you are consuming, the way you are consuming it, and the place from where you are consuming it. Many people start learning cybersecurity from their popular influencers, who put the thumbnail-like full hacking course in 12 hours and then hack your girlfriend's device with just this one app. They just made these videos for money and not to educate you. Understand how they make money, and you will agree with my point. I accept that some good creators create quality videos sharing valuable knowledge, but 99% of the cybersecurity channels are trash and don't teach you anything valuable. So, always keeps an open mind and doesn't follow anyone blindly, not even me. Use your mind and then make a decision.

2. We can learn Hacking in 12hours, 1day, or a month?
Cybersecurity has no fixed syllabus, nor is there a limited syllabus you can learn once. You should always remember that "cybersecurity is an ever-changing field, so if something worked yesterday, it doesn't mean it will work today, too."

For example, if you used a tool to scan a website yesterday, it may not work today; the reason can be anything. Maybe the technology or technique used in the tool has been patched, or the creator has deleted the tool for XYZ reasons. So, never rely on a tool; rather, learn the technology or technique the tool was working on.

3. Hacking is all about learning tools.

No, it's more about creating a hacker mindset than learning tools. Tools come and go; your mentality is what matters the most. You should a mindset that cross-question almost everything, if something is working, how it's working, how i can do it manually, can we do it some other way.

If you have any other questions, reply to this email, and I will answer them in the next email.

Now, let's get a rough idea of what cybersecurity is.

Cybersecurity is the practice of protecting computers, networks, and data from theft, damage, or unauthorized access. Simply, it’s about keeping our digital information safe from bad actors like hackers or viruses. Just like we lock our doors and set alarms to protect our homes, cybersecurity uses various tools and strategies to defend our online world. This includes things like using strong passwords, installing antivirus software, and being cautious about what information we share online. Essentially, it's about ensuring that our digital activities and assets remain secure and private.

We will understand this in more detail in the upcoming issue.
